One of the joys of putting together a theme issue is seeing the many ways in which poets and writers conceive of and explore a single topic. During our editorial meetings, there was a lot of excitement about pieces that explored our theme, “Margins,” in unexpected ways, and those that were more literal. I think this is evidenced by our selections. This issue deals with margins of many kinds: spatial, economic, and gendered, for example; and that appear in multiple contexts: mythical and historical, other galaxies and imagined futures. I hope you find the poems, stories, and essay in this issue as beautiful, challenging, comforting and unsettling as we do. Many thanks to the editorial assistants who reviewed and discussed hundreds of submissions with passion, diligence, open-mindedness, and commitment to publishing timely and original work.
